Rescue:
|
Most of the animals within the Rattie Ratz foster care network were rescued from local "open-door" shelters. Although we like to primarily focus our rescue efforts on at-risk shelter animals, we have decided to re-open our doors to private surrender situations as well (effective 2009). If you need to surrender your pet rats and are concerned about bringing them to a local shelter, we may be able to help.

While being the best place to adopt companion rats, we also pride ourselves on being a wonderful initial and ongoing resource for everything related to rats. Please feel free to get in touch with us and pick our brains BEFORE you choose to bring rats into your household.

When you choose to bring rats into your family, you are entering the vast and wonderful world of pet rats! In an effort to help guide you in the right direction for basic rat information, we have teamed up with The Social Rat. They maintain a nice site with lots of great resources regarding general/basic rat care, sitters, vets, and wonderful supply shops.

Education and Outreach:
|
In our opinion, education and outreach is just as important as rescue and adoptions. We eagerly accept any chance we can get at educating the general public about pet rats. In particular, we enjoy focusing on exposing young children to pet rats. We have special programs for children 3-5 years of age and would love to come into your preschool or kindergarten to show the kids what pet rats are all about!
And every year, we teach classes about rats for Summer Animal Camps. If you are looking for a rat teacher for your Animal Camp, please contact the Lead Volunteer closest to your area for more details.

Other:

In addition to these basic services, we also offer several other bits and pieces. We have gently used supplies that we try to make available to new rattie families. We can help you retrofit your existing cages and supplies to make them work well and safely for pet rats. Through The Social Rat, we help bring the rat community together by having community events, fundraisers, and social parties. We look forward to having you all join us!
